Away Again!!

Seems that I have had a huge year of travelling and the year is still not over!!
Just come back from teaching a Masterclass at Stewart's Point, which is just above Kempsey on the East Coast of New South Wales. A fabulous place with great aboriginal spirit that seems to burst forth on all sides. There is a remarkable 'birthing cave' there and the power that comes from that area is immense.... so you can image the work that comes from an area like that!
Sharon's construction

Gloria's work

Paula's plant dyed and stitched work.

The beach was also glorious!! Just the tonic that is needed for a traveller of many miles!!
How I do love to get there and dip the toe and just marvel at how the sun hits the sand and the water!! The most rejuvenating time!!

And then there is always the beach 'installation'! Done by Sharon and Susie early one morning!!

And of course... some of us just had to get in on the act!!

Did you know that the program for Fibres Ballarat 2010 has been announced!??
http://www.fibresballarat.viviti.com/ will give you all the details!

Jobs Warehouse!!

Am in Melbourne at the moment and was offered a very exciting chance to go to "Job's Warehouse" in Bourke St, Melbourne!!! Well!!! I am not sure if any of you know this place, but what a place!!
full to the gunnel's of fabric, notions, lace and a whole lot of wonderful 'c..p' that would come in handy for something!!
You need gloves and a mask (this is no joke!!) to rummage around in the room at the back! you climb onto the mountain of stuff that looks like it has been just chucked in from the door!! We had a great time!! Mel, Joss and I!! I got some 1940's wool knit singlets, undies and longjohns all army issue and will be fabulous for my next exhibition...that is after I have dyed them!
Also got a box of very old thick pearl buttons...I think this was the bargain of the day.... $10 for about 100 buttons!! Fabulous!!

I am down here to travel to Horsham, well really to Natimuk(I said Horsham so you would know where I would be close too!) to open the exhibition for a dear friend, Ingrid Wimbury!! He r work is very off the edge and I will show some images after the show.

So I am here for only a short while, but as usual pack a lot of stuff in whilst I am in this city...as well I have the chance to go and design the new garden for the kids that were burnt out in Traralgon!! Now!!! that is what I will really enjoy!!

On another note.... have just made a new website... http://www.glenysmann.viviti.com/ Have a look if you have time.

All for now, friends coming over for 'fish and chips and wine'!!

Not sure if it is in the newsagents as yet, but worth a look.
The images are fabulous and the colours are very true.... thanks to the skill of my photographer, Steve Gonsalves.... whom they have missed out in acknowledging... blast!! But you can check out his website from my list of links!
But you can't have it all!!
Enjoy the article and let me know what you think.
I have attached a link to the heading of this post...but they have not got the new mag on there as yet!!

Bali.... still in my soul!!

Just a few more images of Bali...hope that I am not boring you.
With the recent troubles in Indonesia all that rely on the tourist industry(the whole population) will be suffering for many years to come. Brings a pain to my heart for the victims and the innocent people of that region.
Enjoy these images while we can!

The Cat!!

Apologies for showing you another image of the horror that was "Black Saturday" 7th Feb 2009, but from this devastation comes some great news, at times!!
The Cat is back home!!
When the fires came so quickly upon our son's home in Traralgon South, in panic, they locked the dog and the cats into the laundry, thinking that they would be safe in there.... but one of the cats didn't want to be locked into the laundry and fought Anthony and hi-tailed it out of the house!! They never saw her again!
Until just recently that is!!
A phone call from the RSPCA pound in Traralgon asked if they had lost a Tabby cat on that disastrous day, "yes, but we have given up hope. It is 5 months since we have seen her".
The micro chip proved to be 'Heide'!!
She was noticed a few months ago around a neighbours' shed, (one that survived the fires) and the neighbour started feeding the cat. After a time the neighbours set a trap and caught Heide, took her into the pound and now the rest is history!!
She is home with the boys and has taken over the house....as she had done those many months ago!
The tension and stress has eased a huge amount in the Mann household... the mystery of how Heide survived that fire storm will never be known... but to have a 'dear friend' back is worth more than words can say!!

Bali Secrets! The other side!

For the last 10 days we have been in Bali! Staying in Ubud, 1 hour north of Denpasar, we choose to stay at Alum Jiwa, a fine collection of Balinese type dwellings. this view above is what I see from my bedroom window. Agung is the peak in the background and most sacred to the people of this land. It was a rare event to see her in all her glory as she was often hiding behind heavy cloud.

I wanted to show you the 'other side' of Bali, before I show what most people see!

We have a fabulous driver, Eka, who has been showing us the other side for 6 years now. Taking us off the tourist tracks and finding the most amazing places.
Many alley-ways and windows that apear to be of no use what so ever!

Rooves that are an ispiration for artists!

The very latest in top of the range cooking stoves!

Fabulous wooden doors and secrets behind them!

Will post more of the special delights of Bali in a few days!
